Electric hair what to do to remove static electricity?

Is your hair static and you're tired of having your hair styled like Doc from Back to the Future? Discover tips to get rid of static electricity.

When we talk about electric hair, we are first and foremost talking about the phenomenon of static electricity. Physics wasn't your strong point in class? Here's a catch-up session:

Is static hair serious, doctor?

Rest assured, static electricity is absolutely harmless to hair. It is in fact a completely natural phenomenon!

When hair is magnetized by a hairbrush or a sweater, it means that its static electricity charge is inversely proportional to that of the objects to which it is attracted. Among the factors that promote this phenomenon, we find cold and dry air , but also repeated shampooing.

The nature of the hair is also not insignificant. Fine hair , for example, is lighter and therefore more likely to be "sucked in" if it encounters an opposing charge.

What to do to get rid of static electricity?

Electric hair is anything but inevitable, provided you respect a few fundamentals:

  1. Use a mild shampoo

We limit ourselves to a weekly shampoo, and we favor a gentle shampoo, that is to say without chemicals, composed only of ingredients of natural origin.

  1. Hydrate and nourish

We opt for a special conditioner for dry and damaged hair or a moisturizing conditioner. A moisturizing and/or nourishing mask can also be applied up to twice a week. A few drops of vegetable oils, such as argan and coconut oil, also help to nourish the hair fiber.

  1. Detangle and style naturally

For styling, use your fingers, a tortoiseshell or horn comb, or a natural bristle brush. The latter is softer and holds hair better than a plastic bristle brush. Good to know: the action of the natural bristle brush is even more effective when you spray a treatment for dry or damaged hair on your hair.

  1. Dry gently

Let it air dry, or pre-dry your hair in a towel, without friction, before using the hair dryer. We prefer an ionic hair dryer, or failing that a regular hair dryer but with a warm or cold heat, keeping the nozzle at a good distance.

If you use a hair straightener or curling iron, don't forget to apply a heat-protective treatment beforehand.

  1. Apply a styling cream

We finish our routine by applying a styling cream to the lengths. Generally speaking, we always think about having wax or serum in our handbag. The idea is to weigh down the hair fiber to make it go back down in case of emergency.

If not, a hand or face cream will suffice. Another tip: water. Wet your hands and gently and gradually bring them close to your hair to absorb the electric charge.

  1. Opt for a uniform and long cut

Cuts with a significant gradient are more favorable grounds for the appearance of static electricity, which is less the case for uniform and long cuts, which are heavier.

  1. Avoid synthetic materials and tumble drying

Synthetic clothing is banned and air drying is preferred. If you really can't air dry your clothes, program the dryer so that it stops before they are completely dry.
