Irritated scalp: which oils can relieve me?
It pulls, it itches, it tingles, it peels… there’s no doubt about it, your scalp is irritated. To relieve it, there’s only one prescription: gentleness!
Irritated scalp: the causes
Good scalp health is essential for acquiring beautiful hair: the scalp is the foundation of hair growth and texture. It plays a protective barrier role, meaning that in the case of dry, fragile, dull hair, the problem generally needs to be treated at the root. However, the aggressions that sensitize the scalp are numerous and often invisible: pollution, stress, humidity, sun, cigarette smoke, but also excessive use of heat and certain products not adapted to the needs of our scalp. Result: an irritated scalp that takes the form of itching and heating sensations. Redness and dandruff may also appear. A healthy scalp is a scalp that knows how to be forgotten!
Irritated Scalp: Oil Treatments
To soothe and alleviate scalp irritation, you need gentleness. In addition to dermatological treatments for the most serious cases (psoriasis, hives, lichen, etc.), oil massage is the most suitable treatment for relieving the scalp: it restores strength to the hair, stimulates the scalp, eliminates dandruff, and soothes itching. Vegetable oil or essential oil, each has the power to act on the health of your hair. Coconut oil helps treat dryness caused by dandruff, sweet almond oil has the particularity of regulating sebum production, castor oil cleanses the skin by preventing bacteria from spreading. More concentrated in active substances, essential oils have proven their worth in the fight against scalp irritations: tea tree essential oil clarifies and cleanses the skin, lavender essential oil calms itching, rosemary essential oil reduces dandruff, peppermint essential oil stimulates hair growth… We include a purifying shampoo in our hair routine that will eliminate impurities that could suffocate the scalp.
Irritated scalp: a DIY treatment
It is possible to create your own massage oil. The advantage? You choose "ingredients" that perfectly meet the expectations and needs of your scalp. A tailor-made treatment that requires a base of vegetable oil to which you add a small amount of essential oil. For example, you can mix 4 tablespoons of coconut oil and 5 drops of tea tree essential oil. Apply this antifungal, softening and moisturizing mask by massaging with your fingertips in firm circular movements and moving the skin on the scalp (rather than your fingers on the hair). Leave on for 30 minutes and rinse. If the problem persists, you should consult a doctor or dermatologist.
