Pregnancy and textured hair: how to handle it
Pregnancy brings its share of upheavals of all kinds! Just like the skin, the hair is subjected to these hormonal changes.
Frizzy hair and pregnancy: the changes
Pregnancy impacts the condition of the hair: the fault of hormones that turn everything upside down! Their much higher level causes a disruption in the hair growth cycle: it is stronger, more resistant, thicker. The hair of the pregnant woman is then more voluminous, but also shinier and silkier. This state of grace only lasts… for the duration of the pregnancy! With the drop in hormones that follows childbirth, the hair life cycle resumes its rhythm and the fall phase is making a big comeback. You should therefore not neglect your hair during pregnancy to limit the risk of hair loss and breakage as much as possible.
Frizzy hair and pregnancy: the routine
During pregnancy, we emphasize hair nutrition. No need to make it complicated, we don't want to spend too much time on it: we favor nourishing treatments . We start by washing our hair with a gentle and moisturizing shampoo, then we follow with a keratin-based mask that will strengthen the hair fiber. Then, we moisturize: a water-based product, followed by a vegetable oil - coconut oil, castor oil - to seal this hydration. Every 3 weeks, we nourish deeply with an oil bath without essential oils. In case of great fatigue (or understandable laziness), do not abandon your routine, but rather reduce the pace. You can also choose the co-washing method (washing your hair directly with a conditioner), which is faster.
Frizzy hair and pregnancy: hairstyles
During pregnancy, but also after the birth of Baby, we opt for protective hairstyles – preferably without extensions to avoid pulling – which will preserve your frizzy hair, avoid manipulations that accentuate breakage, protect the ends. And since you can keep this hairstyle between 3 weeks and a month, it leaves you time to take care of yourself and your baby!
Frizzy hair and pregnancy: to avoid
Some products should be avoided during pregnancy: the scalp is a permeable area that absorbs everything in the body and these products could be harmful to the growth of the fetus. These include chemical dyes, relaxers, essential oils, products containing alcohol and perfume, parabens.
