My hair is no longer growing, what should I do?

Do you feel like your hair is gaining volume, but not length? That your hair is no longer growing? We take a look at the growth of frizzy and curly hair.

Focus on the growth of frizzy and curly hair

Do you think that the length of your hair is stagnating? We reassure you, if there is no medical cause, your hair is continually growing. Even if it grows less quickly than straight hair, it still grows 0.8 cm per month! If you have the impression that your hair is no longer growing, it is first of all due to its helical shape: it grows in a spiral and retracts at the slightest humidity, being able to lose up to 70% of its length. But also to the nature of frizzy hair : very fragile and dry, it breaks easily. Often, the ends break at the same rate as the hair grows, or even faster, which obviously slows down hair growth.

Why is my hair no longer growing?

If your hair grows more slowly or breaks faster than it grows, it is due to a lack of hydration: due to its zigzag shape, the sebum – a source of hydration – secreted by the scalp has difficulty circulating to the ends. A lack of proteins can also be the cause: chemical treatments, coloring, repeated heat from blow-drying damage the keratin naturally contained in the hair, making it fragile and brittle. Handling hair without precautions – detangling with a brush, braiding, extensions, hairstyles that are too heavy – can also damage it and increase breakage. Finally, keeping damaged and split ends risks damaging the lengths: to maintain healthy hair and ensure healthy growth, it is best to cut damaged hair every 5-6 months. Thus, the actions we take with our frizzy or curly hair contribute either to its growth or to its breakage.

How can I boost my hair growth?

The first important step for healthy frizzy hair that will grow normally is hydration: it prevents the hair from drying out and breaking. Start by providing pure water to the hair or a treatment rich in water, and then apply a fatty substance such as oil or butter. Think of carapate oil and castor oil, rich in Omega-6, which promote hair growth by acting directly on the hair follicle. Then avoid hairstyles that suffocate or pull excessively on the hair, we take it gently and delicately, both in terms of detangling, drying and braiding. The ideal? A long-lasting protective hairstyle, such as loose twists, flat vanillas without extensions or faux locks. Instead, we opt for massaging the scalp with a serum, using small circular movements with the fingertips: it will activate micro-stimulation of the blood and thus allow the nutrients contained in the serum to penetrate. And don't forget to sleep with a silk or satin scarf to protect your hair from rubbing against the pillow!
